Shanice – He Chose Me

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”  – John 15:16

“I would be out walking the streets, and I could see other women doing the same. A man would pull up next to me on the street, and I would get in the car. I felt a little special. There were all these women walking around that he could have chosen, but he chose me. Even with what was going to happen, he still picked me, you know? It felt good to have someone choose you.”

A beautiful Daughter of Christ shared this story with us at the Rahab House. When you have spent so much of your life being treated as a second-thought, a burden, and a failure, there is value in simply being chosen. It doesn’t matter who chooses you or why you are being chosen. You have been told you deserve nothing more than this so frequently that there is no other truth in your mind. You have been manipulated, shamed, and coerced into believing that your value, your worth as a person, is in the very eyes of the person using you.

At Rahab, we have the opportunity to speak a different Truth – a real Truth. The women we serve have indeed been chosen, but they have been chosen by the Lord for a beautiful and glorious purpose. Their value is not in the men who use them but in their identity as a Daughter of Christ. We have watched women come to accept and live this Truth and others who continue to wrestle with it, but the Lord continues to pursue them!

To every woman that the Lord brings to Rahab, this is the truth about you…You are a Daughter of the King, His love for you is profound, you are worthy of His love, you are a princess of the Most High, you are His joy, you were created to be loved by your Loving Father in Heaven, you have a voice and God loves to hear it, God sings over you, God rejoices over you, you are a beloved child of God, God loves you unconditionally, God knew you by name in your mother’s womb, you were not an accident, you have a seat in Heaven waiting for you, God sent His Son as a sacrifice for you, God will never stop pursuing you, God will never leave you, and your shame was taken away at the cross.   – Quote from poster shown in image above
